Jun Zhai, President of Macquarie Bank China, disclosed on May 6 that the firm will enter China industrial investment fund sector to conduct direct investment. Currently, the relevant procedures are waiting for approvals from Chinese government.
Macquarie Bank officially entered China market in 1995 and mainly invested in China real estate deals at its initial phase, and shifted to invest in infrastructure sector in 2008. In the direct investment aspect, Macquarie Bank has attached great importance to infrastructure projects including Kunming airport bidding, highway, and water. It has injected tens of millions of dollars to a cosmetics company.
According to Mr. Zhai, Macquarie Bank will establish joint securities companies to stake in China trust companies, and will enter RMB and USD industrial investment funds sector to conduct direct investment business. In addition, it will get involved in private financing business.
