JPMorgan Chase recently announced that it plans to invest US$750 million and establish a private equity fund to explore Asia Pacific market, because Asia Pacific region is an important part of its growth strategy. It is learnt that the private equity fund will be managed by TVG Capital Partners co-founders Varun Bery and John Troy as well as 10 professionals at TVG Capital Partners.
JPMorgan Chase plans to allow the management team to assess all the industries but real estate and finance. The PE fund¡¯s investment fields cover consumption, retail, industry, medical insurance, telecommunications, media, technology and natural resource and other industries. The PE fund will conduct non-controlling investments into the target companies with the investment scale ranging from US$25 million to US$100 million.
JPMorgan Chase is also very optimistic about Asia's economic development prospects. The company¡¯s analysts believe that in comparison with developed markets, growth advantage on emerging markets is still widening and in 2008 Asian economy is expected to achieve a rapid growth in five consecutive years. Against this backdrop, JPMorgan Chase has pooled more efforts to develop the private equity market in the Asia Pacific region.
